Meet the Vet Physio team: Holly Gallacher

The BSc (Hons) Veterinary Physiotherapy course is taught by a skilled team of industry professionals who have experienced all kinds of scenarios out in the field. With this in mind, the team seeks to bring this knowledge to Harper students in the classroom, as well as connecting them to the wider sector with accreditation by the Animal Health Professions’ Register upon completing their undergraduate degree. Likewise, the team helps those looking to specialise in the field through a range of postgraduate options to elevate their career even further.

With such wide ranging credentials, we wanted to introduce you to the team and let them explain why Harper is the place to study veterinary physiotherapy.

Holly Gallacher is a Clinical Educator in Veterinary Physiotherapy who herself trained at Harper. She explained: “My career aspirations were grounded in a passion for all animals and their welfare.

“I completed my undergraduate degree in equine science and then went on to complete my PgDip in Veterinary Physiotherapy at Harper.”

Having seen the perspective from the side of the student and now as the educator, Holly is an advocate for teaching excellence.

Holly’s favourite part of her role is the hands on element. She said: “I really enjoy practical teaching with the students, especially when the students start to practice manual therapy skills.

“In doing so, you can see the students make a difference to a horse's comfort and performance levels.”

Holly’s reference to horses ties into her specialism of the equine variety. She commented: “I have a specific interest in equine behaviour in relation to musculoskeletal problems, stemming from experience with my own horses.”

With her love of horses, much of Holly’s free time is also spent with the animals. She said: “I spend all my spare time with my two horses and walking my dog, Luna.”
